Pop Pop Pop

Its time for the Pop Culture Round Up, Pup! It's been a while so all new things have been eeking in my brain to discuss, recommend and throw down.

We are all aware of my addiction to podcasts. Marc Maron's WTF podcast was recommended to me by many people who know what I like - and I sure like this. As with most podcasts its not very different - people talk for 1 hour. The end. Marc gets great guests and takes them to task like no one else would. My favorite episodes have been with Robin Williams, Dane Cook and other great comedians. Its sort of getting a little meta since every podcast has the same people on them - but somehow Marc Maron keeps it interesting. I've officially ended my Carolla podcast and traded it for Maron. Sorry, Aceman.

Portlandia Sketch show on IFC. Portland, Oregon. Not Portland, Maine. Sorry East Coasters. Im not going to pretend this show isnt for the inside crowd because if you havent been to Portland this makes no sense. Basically, you can take all the things you THINK about San Francisco and then apply them here, it would be sort of close. I had to get over the fact that Armisen and "whats her name from Mad Men" broke up and it seemed sketchtown when he started dating his SNL favorite sketch so far has been "Put a Bird On It" where they say if you put a bird on it, its automatically art. Who knows how long this will last and its not laugh out LOUD funny, more smugly laugh by saying "thats so true!" - but you should check out while you can.

Garfunkel & Oates: Musical Comedy Duo. Basically if you like Ani Difranco and Sarah Silverman and you love hearing shared experiences of the twentysomething experience - you will love them. They sing funny songs about hand jobs, Precious, bad songs, getting your weed card.....just google the FUCK out of them and then aim me so we can discuss and laugh our asses off. If you can see them live, dont think twice - just go for it! My personal favorite is Worst Song Ever Medley.
First there was 16 & Pregnant.
Then there was Teen Mom.
Then there was 16 & Pregnant AGAIN.
Then there was 16 & Pregnant AGAIN.
Now there's Teen Mom 2 and oh boy is it just as heart breaking as ever. Its funny how this common theme of young motherhood really does just go on and perpetuate from mother down to daughter. Janelle who had to sign her rights away to her mother for her son Jace is the hardest and most intriguing story line to witness. She is young and is unapologetic and really makes all the choices the other moms have had to rise above. I think it gives a great perspective of what sometimes happens when you get pregnant too early. I cant stop watching.

I fucking love Parks and Recreation and I want all the best for Adam Scott in his career but so far his presence on P&R is a complete waste. Rob Lowe left Brothers & Sisters so he could join and the best show on TV Party Down was cancelled to allow Adam Scott on the show. Rob Lowe is brilliantly utilized and Adam Scott has the equivalent role to Toby on The Office. Who cares? Do something more with the brilliant and EVER AMAZING Mr. Scott!

And finally -
1. See The Fighter and pretend Mark Walberg's character is being played by someone else. Its great!

2. If you have a long car trip coming up listen to Aziz Ansari's comedy album from last year but skip the encore, it will ruin the entire experience.

3. If you have ten extra dollars you should donate to my dear friends Sarah & Vicki's documentary here.

4. If you own a Wii buy Just Dance 2. You will thank me.

5. Netflix streaming and hulu plus are no replacement for cable television and stop telling people it is.
